Martial Arts & Self Defence
CONTINUAL PROGRESSION THROUGH PERSISTENCE & TRAINING
National Urban Combat Academy (NUCA) and Smart Urban Combat Systems is an Australian freestyle martial art that has been specifically designed to cater for the needs of modern society. Our SMART (Systematic Martial Art Responsive Training) system was created as a result of an obvious need for a better style and indeed a better system of self defence to cater for the increasing levels of violence in today's society where knife and glassing attacks are becoming commonplace.
Grant Rohde is the chief founder of NUCA. Grant holds a 5th degree in Zen Do Kai having spent 36 years training in Bob Jones Martial Arts and he also holds Black Belts in several other styles including a 2nd degree in BJC Muay Thai. He has bought together a group of highly competent Black Belt Martial Artists (who collectively have decades of martial arts experience) to draw upon their individual experiences to determine the best training solutions for the NUCA system.
Only techniques that are tried and proven have been approved for inclusion in the NUCA freestyle style. The NUCA training curriculum has been put together using techniques from a variety of different martial arts styles. At its core, the style is Okinawan Gojo Ryu Kenkyukai Karate but also has aspects and techniques from Brazilian Jui-Jitsu, Muay Thai, Tae Kwon Do, Close Quarter Combat and Knife fighting.
No longer does a student need to be “cross training” to get overall exposure to a variety of martial art styles. The purpose of creating the NUCA Smart training system was to develop a system that was truly holistic. A system whereby a student could learn a technique today and use it today. Techniques that incorporate natural body movements to generate devestating moves to aid in the self defence of its user. Unlike many styles where it takes literally years to gain any level of competence. NUCA is about providing the student with the necessary skills they need to help them manage almost every possible situation in any environment.
NUCA teaches the student basic hand to hand combat techniques. These are the most useful tools to arm someone with when a street fight becomes apparent. These techniques are taught in an open learning environment to people of all ages and genders. NUCA takes a common sense approach to practical self defence to teach our students the necessary skills needed to defend themselves or their loved ones against single or multiple attackers being either armed or unarmed.
The ability to fight in a variety of environments such as either stand up or on the ground, in confined spaces or even in the dark is only part of what NUCA can offer. NUCA also teaches students the use of a variety of common weapons and the defence of them as well. NUCA has an emphasis on the many other benefits a student gets from studying martial arts, such as poise, posture, balance, self control, flexibility, coordination and of course self confidence and fitness.
The core instructor body assembled by NUCA literally have years of experience. Some have Black Belts in several styles (including senior Black Belt ranks in Zen Do Kai) and have spend decades as qualified instructions having taught people from all walks of life such as Police Officers, Ambulance Officers, Security Guards, Prison Guards and Body Guards and Army Personnel just to mention a few. Most of our Instructors have had fight careers either in the security industry and or in the ring. Our instructors are all First Aid trained and all have “Working with Children” Blue Cards.
NUCA is a community minded body with an emphasis on “putting something back” into the community. We offer free training session courses to emergency service officers to help arm those people (that put their lives on the line for us everyday), with an arsenal of tools they are able to use to defend themselves and anyone else in harms way.
All NUCA schools offer free introductory classes and training fee structures to suit individuals, groups, families or couples. Call you local NUCA dojo for more information and to book your introduction class. It may be the best thing you ever do. I hope to see you real soon and remember, just because you’re not paranoid does not mean they are not out to get you….
